Brigadier (Retd.)


A product of National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakvasla, PUNE; selected in June 1957, for a Government Class 1 Gazetted Post of a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army (now upgraded to Lieutenant), when a IIIrd year B.Sc. student, through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) held tough All- India Competition.
Squadron Cadet Captain (SCC) in NDA & Staff Sergeant in IMA (Indian Military Academy), he was a technical cadet all through but proudly opted to join INFANTRY-1st GORKHA RIFLES on passing-out from IMA in June 1961.
A die-hard Gorkha by profession but Indian by birth, he served in three Gorkha Battalions, namely 1st, 4th and 2nd, which he commanded. He was also Deputy Commandant and Commandant at 14 Gorkha Training Centre where he trained and administered a large force of Gorkha recruits from Nepal.
A science graduate of NDA and a Post Graduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Nilgiri Hills, India, he served as an Instructor at various Army Schools of Instructions. An expert in counter-guerilla warfare, he trained Indian Army Officers and Battalions as Chief Instructor in CIJW School (Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare School) at Vairengte in Mizoram where he was awarded VSM by the President of India for his excellent and extraordinary contributions to the Indian Army.


  As President SSB
Specially selected from all the brigadiers of Indian Army and fully trained at a specialized course of “INTERVIEWING OFFICER” Brigadier Mehta served as President of a SSB at Allahabad for three years before he retired from service.
Directly responsible for selection of most suitable personnel from among aspirant youths of the country for induction in the Indian Armed Forces as Officers.
Personally conducted over 5,000 interviews including those of Women Special Entry Scheme into the Army as Officers.
The Interview Technique is unique in the country, which is based on scientifically tested and fully validated evaluating systems introduced by the Britishers and further refined by Defence Institute of Psychological Research, India.

Conceived, planned and executed commencement of a 10+2 CBSE based English Medium coeducational residential School on the pattern of an Army Public School for meeting educational, extra-curricular and sports requirements of the village children in Punjab.
